Some advice for Actuarial Science students
Here is some advice from Prof. Scofield for our acturial science students.
It is better to take Stat 344 than Stat 341 for VEE (Validation by Educational Experience, an official way the Society of Actuaries recognizes courses related to actuarial science).
- Stat 344 is offered every other spring, so you need to plan ahead.
- Stat 343 is a prerequisite and is offered every fall.
To get an internship,
- Apply in Fall (preferably before October) of junior year,
- Try to pass at least one actuarial exam (FM, is a good option) before applying to increase your chances of getting an internship.
FIN 301 lists minimum grades in BUS 201, ACCT 203, as if these courses are prerequisites. But these courses are not required for actuarial science majors.
The description for ECON 343 lists ECON 243 as a prerequisite. But having taken STAT 243 or STAT 343 is sufficient for obtaining approval from the ECON 343 instructor to enroll.
STAT 143 and STAT 145 are not considered sufficient.
